Recycling of technical polymers

Technical Polymers are used in applications that require a high product safety, long-term use, and high mechanical loads. This has resulted in countless types of polymers with specific properties and characteristics over the past years. The use of recycled polymers in technical applications, load carrying parts, and high-quality products is not widely considered in the most industries due to the inconsistencies in properties of recycled polymer mixes. But what if the properties of recycled polymers could be modified and refined in a way that enables their use in technical products?

The kickoff

In cooperation with global leaders in the skiing industry Gabriel-Chemie tackles this challenge to push towards a more sustainable future.

By collecting PIR and PCR materials from the skiing industries and applying a tailormade compatibilization, it is possible to process the materials on existing lines without modifications to machines and only minor adjustments to the processing parameters. With a specially developed compatibilizer from Gabriel-Chemie, it was possible to enhance mechanical properties, enabling the integration of fully recycled materials into skiing products.

A revolution in the industry and great step towards a more sustainable future!

Our solution with

MAXILOOP UNS7AB5220COM

Inspired by this groundbreaking example, Gabriel-Chemie started to develop a series of compatibilizers targeted towards various industries and technical polymers. One of these new products is MAXILOOP UNS7AB5220COM.

As technical polymer recycling streams in waste collection are generally smaller than standard polymers, the commercially available recycled grades often suffer from impurities and contaminations with other polymers. UNS7AB5220COM is created to target a wide range of technical polymers. The addition of our masterbatch enables the compatibilization of valuable recycled technical polymers like TPU, PA, ABS and even contaminations with Polyolefins, thereby promoting processing on conventional extrusion lines and injection moulding machines. Furthermore, an increase in impact strength and a reduction in brittleness and dusting can be achieved. UNS7AB5220COM could be a great starting point for a wide range of applications to introduce recycled polymers into technical products!
